Urbanathlon & Little Gym

31 January 2010

JY overslept! On a nice cosy Sunday morning, our plan is to cheer WJ on for his first Urbanathon, i thought JY will wake up at her usual 6ish-630am. She woke up only at 7am! We took a ride from WJ's parents and rushed down to Clarke Quay and met the tail-end of the race, we hurried to the the Riverside Point, praying that WJ hasn't cleared the checkpoint yet.

This race is men's answer to all women's race like Shape Run, Great Eastern 10km Run. The Urbanathlon comprises of a 12km route with 8 checkpoints whereby they are to complete the urban obstacles, a bit like army's SOC....

She was so quiet watching the whole race of men jogging past and was silently observing what was going around her. We saw some struggling to just finish the race, we saw one, apparently also a army regular, whose head is wrapped under a bloody bandage and he is easily the top 30% of the race, wow.

We waited for around 10minutes when we caught sight of WJ at 8am! Yea,!! JY was both excited but awed that she forgot to cheer WJ but just stared at him for some minutes before breaking into a smile. How i know she was excited? She held on tightly to a container ( which kept her entertained in the morning car ride) and never let go till a good half-hour later.

5-10mins later, WJ is joined by Edric & Yongtai and they took a group picture despite an out-of-breath Edric.

After waving them off, we sauntered along the riverside gawking at more racers. We cabbed down to Marina Square and JY ran amok in the big and empty shopping mall, yelping at the large space in front of her.

We slowly picked our way to the End Point and saw racers in all patterns of mud-splatter, this is an example of a full mud splatter..some are half-splatter, some have mud caked to the specs, hair....yucks.

JY cheering & clapping the racers to "Go Go Go!"

At the end point, we barely needed to wait for more 30mins, when WJ completed his race at around 1hr17mins! We manage to also cheer on WJ's friends as well who completed the race too!

A very clean WJ who has minimum mud-splatter, only at his legs....

Again, the mud splatter patterns differs...

WJ, Edric & YT at the End Point.

We caught sight of Roy, admired for his relentless pursuits of endless races after races.

Throughout the whole race, i was just thinking would i be able to complete the obstacles and race if i were racing and would there be a women's race?? should be fun! From the looks of the racers, it was a good race. Well, to a bigger Urbanathlon..and to WJ's next event, the Biathlon on March!

Straight after, WJ washed up and had a Mac's breakfast, we are off to Forum. We went to the Mummy's Room and it's the classiest room i ever ever seen so far! Doesn't this resembles a hotel room, i think the designer must have been a mum with good taste to furnish this room as opposed to all the other mummy rooms which seems to be just put together to serve a function i.e sit and breastfeed.

We proceded to Little Gym to join Teresa & little Charles (eh, not so little) for the morning gym. It was so sweet for Teresa & Charles to invite JY for this class. Excited to see how JY respond and react socially to the other toddlers.

To our amusement, JY shoot off straight and make herself comfortable around the class gym, exploring the place and went around making friends. All along, we understand and know JY is not shy in front of strangers but in a social setting among her peers, it was just an affirmation that my little one is an out-going and fiesty girl. Not one to be shy to even teachers, she stood in front of the instructor and her new friends, shriek in delight, clapped her hands, got her balls, clappers, etc. She sometimes was over-enthuasiastic that she wasn't listening and half the time, was doing what she likes. well, i don't know whether to let her be or try to guide her to conform to the class....

At least, i know the options are there to engage her physically.
