Colourful Wide Wide World

Jingyi loves to go out. She's always a bundle of jumping beans, all eager and excited to see the outside world. She'll busied with herself to look at 1001 things and EVERYTHING is worth a look, second and sometimes a third look.

Both sets of grandparents took pride to carry her out and all relished in neighbours/ strangers' remarks of how lovable and cute she looks. To top it off, little JY's giggles and intent stares solicit even more praises from strangers. We couldn't help but be amused how much attention she attracted and of course, the pride and joy we felt everytime.

Almost every weekend, WJ & I will try to take her out to places, dinners, parks or anywhere innovative we can think of. We even visited the Da Vinci exhibition!

Maybe we'll try the Zoo or Bird Park anything that contains interactive, flapping, moving stuff...the hope is to tire her out so she can sleep easier at night.

Even yy dad & mum loves to carry her everywhere. i think it's a miracle that my dad love her company so much, he recently discovered his long-lost camera and cajoling my mummy to take him snapping photos of him & JY from every angle. i felt so amused at their enthusiasm.

The icing on the cake is when i talked to my gynae Dr Chan, she asked so how's life with baby, better? yea i told her beaming, so much better than the 3-4mths. So do you stayed at home more? No, we made a point to bring baby out more as we were really lazy homebodies before. Well, it's good, cos a lot of couples stayed at home more often after they have kids. Oh, yea i think it's more convenient to stay at home and not bothered about logistics. smile smile.

EFFORT. it's a WHOLE LOT of effort.

A Thousand Splendid Suns

I am 3/4 done reading this but it struck such a deep chord within me that i came straight home and gave JY a long long hug today.

It made me ashamed of the shallow views i once held for Muslim women shield behind their burqas and curious enough to know what happen to Afghanistan past & present.

Busy Weekend

This weekend marks JY's 6mths journey and boy was it a busy weekend.

I had a routine check-up with Dr Yvonne Chan and ran some errands
for JY: Organix pureed of carrots, peas, sweetcorn & onions, and a new can of HappyBellies Oatmeal cereal.
for Ah-Ma has some visiting friends from Japan, we bought some yummy vanilla ice-cream from First Choice, housebrand of Cold Storage.

All this time, WJ was feeling unwell w fever, but no flu on Friday. It was impossible to keep indoors all the time w active JY and furthermore Doctor gave us an all-clear of any potential harmful virus.

We brought JY to Sentosa for her first encounter with sand and sea water & sea wind on Sunday.
Ah-Ma got a H1N1 scare when she received a sms frm office and she was so worried JY would be infected and hurried us to bring JY back to Po-Po's place. Then discovered, its a false alarm.

And lastly, me w cough and sore throat, NO flu, since Sunday evening. All of us ended up w a few days MC from the Doc and truly been a tiring weekend. Now i know why mummies cannot afford to fall sick, there'll be no one to track what & what-nots have been done....

I sincerely pray for good health for all mummies, daddies and children.........

Half Way Mark

Dearest darling Jingyi,

You have stealthily become a permanent fixture in our lives and have been creating havoc to our lifestyle for the past 6months. i remember when i just had you, i can't wait for you to grow up & be independent. Now, i can't get enough of your mischief and giggles. It's been a struggle to maintain sanity and to balance work with family at the same time.

You have filled up nicely from a teeny weeny baby since birth and stop short of being a michelin baby. You have stolen all the hearts of both sets of grandparents, aunties & uncles, and of course your parents, us. You have inherited a pair of strong legs & hands from your daddy, the dreaded ezcema & thumb-sucking from mummy.Bad temper & impatience...i suppose both of your genes are at fault.

Everyone loves you & you definitely perk us up without a doubt.

You love your solids, i started you wee bit early as you have refused to drink EBM (i.e express breastmilk) from bottle. Since then, you have gobbled down brown rice cereal, apple juice, banana, tried butternut squash & sweet potato. you ain't a lover for pear though and initially the refusal to drink plain water, you simply love to sip water from the spoon (nope, not from the bottle) and smack your lips alongside with your solids!

I really love how you look at me, times when you want 'maeh maeh!' unknowingly and the cute way you fell asleep in my arms, when u greeted me excitedly everyday when i come back from work as if you missed me & haven't seen me in ages.

You have been developing well, reaching all those milestones that academic and practitioners said babies would. Recently, linguistically, you are able to make so many noises variations and pitches we find it hilarious, except when you discovered whining.

Although i seem to have slaved through the 6months, suddenly all these hard work faded away & gone in a flash, in place, there is this warm fuzzy feeling of love when i gaze at you. Your soft skin, your feather-like hair, rosebud lips and bright eyes all seem so lovable and make you so huggable.

I'm so happy to have you, my darling daughter...Happy 6months old!

The difference is in the Hairband

Girl or Boy? We get that a lot from strangers on the road, some got it right, some got it wrong

Yes i admit sometimes its hard especially when she's wearing neutral colours like brown, yellow, green...but accessories make a difference, like this yellow hairband..doesn't JY look like a girl without a doubt!

The hairband makes a world of difference!

Clothes mailed from US

Really thanked friends who made so much effort in buying clothes for Jingyi, i'm both touched and happy for JY tt she has a group of lovable aunties who can't resist cute baby clothes.

This is courtesy of Aunty Christine whom JY has never met! But this lovable Aunty mailed 2 BabyGap rompers all the way from U.S in a huge envelope addressed to Baby Poh.

White romper - Cutest of the Bunch (showing a bunch of grapes)
BYOB (Bring Your Own Bottle)

Sam Seng Girl

The discovery of her legs & toes lead to her sam-seng positions. often lifting her toes/legs high up in the most unglamourised way.

She found much joy in sucking her wee digits by cramping her whole foot in her mouth, that can occur when changing diapers, sitting in her rocker or just lying on her back.

TMNT

I used to think how nice if my mum kept some of my old stuff that i can use for JY, well it pays off. My brother's toys mostly...

She observes the toy with interest and assess that it's suitable for her

JY's able to grab stuff off the table with a tight grip

She attempts to put it in but her mother stop it in time!
Another attempt to reach for TMNT - Guess the name of this TMNT....................

Doc's Visits

JY has her fair share of doc's visits since birth, i have countless receipts & visits till i cannot keep track anymore. We have visited Simei's clinic, Dr Loke at Srgn Gdns, Dr Ong at United Sq (JY's PD and Prof Kiam at the Nat Skin Centre. I have already maxed out my medical claims for her and it's only July.

After her recent visit to Skin Centre, her ezcema cleared up dramatically well. It's all about applying the cream and moisturiser religiously everyday, now she takes half an hour to complete the bath routine instead of the quick 15mins.
wraparound tube in baby fashion

the many bath & shampoo bottles i tried for her

The elaborate bathing affair is we have to prepare 2 bath water, 1 big one, 1 small one w the dermavive shower oil.

Wash hair first which she hates to do it lying down

then soak & splash in big bath

then followed by small tub which my mum sat her in just for the fun of it

These past weeknights were bearable as her night awakenings lessen to just once a night, cos itch is not there anymore. I should be relieved right, but nooo.....cos my system is so attuned to her frequent night awakenings i have difficulties sleeping for longer hours. :/

Porridge vs Cereal

JY doesn't like porridge but she still lap it up with a funny expression on her face...

She prefers her cereal with relish, finishing with half cup of water every feed

Stuff that JY used

When i first had Jingyi, i often got so lost & frustrated among the rows and rows of shelves of baby products, not knowing what and when to buy what. The on-the-job(OJT)-training really helps as WJ & me navigates the aisles with ease, i got so hooked that i made it a point to trawl through all the major shooping centres/hubs that sells baby products..Robinsons (City Hall & Centrepoint), Takashimaya, Isetan (Parkway & Scotts), Metro (Paragon), OG (Chinatown), Tangs (limited variety), BHG (Bugis), Carrefour (Suntec, they have a huge area dedicate to only baby stuff), Giant(Parkway), even NTUC Fairprice (AMK Hub has great variety too)..we also went Forum, Tanglin Mall, Great World City, AMK Hub, Marina Square, Tampines Mall, Vivocity, Paragon, United Square, i made stops at small baby shops at Eastpoint, Anchorpoint, Toa Payoh, Club Street & even Changi. Gosh, the shopaholic in me is finally showing up!

So she uses
Kodomo Laundry Detergent & Softener, i don't quite like the Pigeon brand of detergent..will last for only 1-1.5 months max

Pigeon liquid cleanser, am gonna try Kodomo one as this one finishes (takes close to 6mths to fnsh 1 bottle)
Diapers - i have tried Drypers, Fitti, Huggies,Pampers & Nepia. Pampers still the best with less leaks and absorbent but expensive, so i used Drypers for Day but the gathers and adhesive is so lousy now. I'm sticking back to Pampers and recently just tried Nepia, not bad.

Baby wipes - tried Tollyjoy, Pigeon, Johnson & Johnson. Prefer Johnson..thick enough and i buy cotton roll and cut them up into big squares and dip into water before use.
Nappy Cream - i used drapolene, mustela but with JY's sensitive skin, i used Neala.
Bottles - NUK, the wideneck fat bottles w butterflies and flowers...(mummies are suckers for this) with the latex teats
i found NUK steamer to be extra useful (Thank U Jenny!) and i prefer to warm bottle/milk in a cup instead of the food warmer(again, tks jenny!:) ) kind.

Nice to have

3 big muslin swaddle cum handy cloths for JY for outings - tks to Shuli who lent me Suzanne's big cottony wraps which i love so much that i bought a pack myself :)
Trumpette- 6 pairs of lovable socks in the outline of mary-jane shoes ( not really the colour, but u get the idea)
Blossom Farm toys - (again I'm a sucker for this) i really love the donkey cuddly toys
